Engr Y. O. Yusuf was born in 1966 in Okene, Kogi State.
He attended Ebira Muslim Community College, Okengwe from 1979 to 1984.
He proceeded to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin and Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna where he obtained National Diploma (ND) in Electrical/Electronics and Higher national Diploma (HND) in Power & Machine option in 1994. respectively.
He later earned Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Electrical Engineering from Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA)
Engr.Yusuf won the best student award in Electrical Engineering at ND and HND level
He is the acting Head, Research and Development.
Engr. Yusuf is a corporate member of Nigeria Society of Engineer ( NSE) and also registered with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN)
He joined the service of the Institute since November, 2005 to date.
Engr Yusuf previously worked at Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited at mains step down substation: 65MVA, 132KV/11KV/6.6KV
He is skilled in power and machine design, Solar PV design, Installation and maintenance.
He is proficient in design softwares (CAD/CAM) such as Pro E , Solid works, Auto Cad and Multisim
His hobbies include reading, chess playing and table tennis.
He is Married and blessed with children.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Research and Development Department is a strategic department of the institute, staffed with Engineers and Scientists who are saddled with the following responsibilities of
Initiating and coordinating research and development programs of engineering and sciences of the Institute
Initiating programs for the strengthening of SMEs in the development of machines, tools and processes
Initiating and coordinating prototype design and development of machineries, tools and processes in cooperation with manufacturing and technical services units
Participating in budget preparation of the Institute, Developing programs for encouraging entrepreneurship in power engineering service infrastructure departments
Collaborate with other bodies, national and international on science and engineering development projects
Serving as the data bank for the Institute
Participating in technical evaluation of new technologies, e.t.c.
The Research and Development department is classified into two divisions: – Engineering Research and Scientific Research. The Engineering Research Division is further divided into the Design Unit and Research Unit. The staff strength of the Research and Development department is Twenty-Eight (28), with Seventeen (17) staff in the Engineering Research and Ten (10) in the Scientific Research, excluding the head of the department.
Virtually, all the facilities/infrastructures acquired by the institute are for Research and Development purposes. Besides testing and certification, all investigations relating to High Voltage (HV) equipment manufacturing and performance parameters are handled here.
